Host Your Event in the Square!

Congress Square Park is ideally set in the heart of the Arts District and is designed as an event space. If you’re interested in hosting a public event, we’d love to help you make it happen. Simply review this page for more information, and complete the form to book with us!

Private, political, religious and fundraising events should go through the city for permitting. Contact Ted Musgrave at <tvm@portlandmaine.gov> for information.

The Square is Designed for Events

Congress Square Park has a built-in stage with electricity and seasonal seating, tables and shade. Gardens throughout the space add lushness. We host events from intimate gatherings of a dozen people to large dance parties with 600+ attendees.

Basics of Hosting an Event

Most weekday evenings Monday through Thursday are available for booking, as are lots of weekend days and Saturday evenings. Simply let us know your ideal date when you contact us about booking.

Note that Friends of Congress Square Park programs all Fridays from June through September, all Sunday nights from June through August, and some weekend days, so these dates are unavailable for booking.

Should the weather outlook call for rain or other inclement weather, you may choose to postpone. Should that need occur, you will hear from us the evening prior to the event. We will do our best at that time to find another date during the season that works.

The administrative fee for hosting an event in the Square is $50. Additionally, we can offer the following event resources:

  • Built in stage – no  fee
  • Cafe seating and shade umbrellas (35 seats and 11 tables) – no fee
  • Access to electricity – no fee
  • Sound system – $150 fee
  • Sound engineer – $150 fee for a 2-hour event, $25 every additional hour
  • Movie screen & projector – $75 fee
  • Dance floor – no fee
  • Access to non-potable water – no fee
  • Designated parking spots for loading/unloading/parking – $10 fee
Things to know:
  • Congress Square Park does not have bathrooms. Access to bathrooms is available at local businesses.
  • Amplified sound is only allowed in up to two-hour increments up to two times per day: between 11am-1pm and between 5-9pm.

Location and Parking:

Congress Square Park is located at the intersection of Congress and High Streets in Portland, ME. For directions, use Google Maps.

We recommend allocating some extra time for navigating and parking, which can be somewhat difficult during evening events especially. The day of the event, FoCSP can designate two parking spots on Congress Street adjacent to the park for loading and unloading purposes. The fee for designated parking spots is $10.

In Portland, on-street parking is free after 6pm, and available in the surrounding neighborhood. Additional, paid parking is available in local garages, the closest of which are: Gateway Garage, 181 High St – Phone: (207) 761-1568, and Spring Street Garage, 45 Spring St – Phone: (207) 874-2842.
