Both groups aim to support artists and enable them to maximize their potential through their creative work and in the community. Family Banned has pledged to give 25% of profits to charity. Mr. Henningsen is a father\, coach \, poet \, artist\, former board member of the Maine Artist Collective and front man for the rock group “Soul or Power.” Mr. Lapointe is an Actor\, musician\, singer\, producer\, and hip hop artist. He performs regularly locally as Unique Unknown. His new album\, professionally produced for radio\, “Just Another Day” will be the first released under Family Banned Records.

She was born in Monterrey\, Mexico in 1984\, where she studied and began pursuing music at the Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza\, with maestro Noel Savon. \nReynaliz has performed in different countries like Mexico\, US\, Canada\, Cuba\, Spain\, Germany and Italy\, and has performed and collaborated with renowned ensembles such as: The National Arts Center Orchestra of Canada\, The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra\, The Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne\, The Boston Conservatory Orchestra\, Mexican Dance Group: Danza Contemporanea en Concierto\, and others.

DESCRIPTION:Stage Frenzy is a 24 Hour Theatre Marathon where\, over the course of 24 hours\, theater artists of various backgrounds\, skill-sets\, and artistic processes will convene to write\, direct\, act\, design\, and perform a freshly written crop of original short plays. Stage Frenzy is an opportunity for theater makers to create theater in its purest form\, with little opportunity to over-think or second guess artistic decisions. It is also an opportunity to take risks. \nThis is the time and place for participating artists to try something new\, just for fun. To write that fantasy/scifi/horror play they’ve always wanted to write or that play that is half dance or includes puppets if that’s what they’ve wanted to explore. To direct in the round or immersively or with movement or puppetry or with bare minimum set. To act a role that’s completely off type in just 12 hours. To design on a shoestring budget with a small set and thrift stores at your convenience. To stage manage in 12 hours with other stage managers\, doing a whole month’s worth of rehearsal process in a split second. To do something different: they’ve got 364 other days of the year to do what they know. \n  \nPresented by Chimera Theatre Collective. \nForged in Portland\, Maine\, in 2015\, Chimera Theatre Collective is focused on melding together our collective life experiences and artistic tendencies to bring new and overlooked works\, ideas\, artists\, and methods into the mainstream where they belong\, while also finding ways to shift the perception of what makes conventional theater.

The Barn’s mission is to inspire creativity and community by harnessing the power of live performance. \nLocated in South Paris\, Celebration Barn’s restored horse barn in the woods of Maine provides an inspiring natural setting away. Colorful\, painted pianos will be available for all to play and enjoy in Monument Square\, Congress Square\, Longfellow Square and Bramhall Square throughout the month of July. \nJoin us for the big reveal of Pianos in the Squares on Friday\, June 28th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. \n  \nSchedule of Ribbon Cuttings and Performances:\n11:00 AM – 11:30 AM Bramhall Square\n11:30 AM – 12:00 PM Longfellow Square\n12:00 PM – 12:30 PM Congress Square\n12:30 PM – 1:00 PM Monument Square \n  \nPianos will be placed in the squares starting on Monday\, June 24th. SUMMARY:Interactive Bunraku Puppetry with Figures of Speech Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Try your hand at bunraku puppetry in a free playshop with Figures of Speech Theatre! Participants will work in groups of 2-3 puppeteers to animate a single puppet and create short\, non-verbal performances\, which we’ll share with each other. Along with noh and kabuki\, bunraku is one of the “high forms” of theater in Japan. We’ll make it easy & accessible for people of all ages and abilities! \nFigures of Speech Theatre creates and tours visionary works of performance forged at the intersection of poetry\, music\, sculpture and dance. \nOur vision for our educational programing—which takes place in all 16 Maine counties and beyond—is to engage imaginations\, impart skill-based training\, awaken consciousness regarding world cultures\, and expand students’ sense of life’s possibilities. We offer a range of programming and touring productions in service of that vision. \nFounded in 1982\, Figures of Speech Theatre is a four-time recipient of the UNIMA Citation of Excellence in Puppet Theater\, as well as grants from organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Rockefeller Foundation\, the Maine Humanities Council\, and the New England Foundation for the Arts. DESCRIPTION:On June 7 from 6-8pm\, Sea Level & The Memorial Skylight will present a full park sound installation – a living moving three dimensional soundscape. As visitors navigate Congress Square Park\, they’ll experience in-the-moment individualized and collective musical compositions that are responsive to natural parameters like sunset\, humidity\, and the activity of people\, animals\, and insects. The performance will include various musical guests as well as live shadow art accompaniment directed by Ian Bannon of Figures Of Speech Theater. \nSea Level & The Memorial Skylight is the pseudonym of musician/conceptual artist Dan Capaldi. The essence of Sea Level & The Memorial Skylight is a fusion of sampled material/field recordings and tight orchestral compositions\, formatted/performed live as a three dimensional sound installation with conscious attention to the evolving trends in human attention and perceived value. Dan studied Drum performance and Film scoring at Berklee College of Music and since has composed music for all varieties of film\, live art installations as well as frequently touring the United States and Europe with various groups and as a solo artist. \n  \nThis event is part of Square Hop\, hosted in collaboration with Portland Downtown. \nFrom 6-8pm on June 7\, you can stroll — or dance\, should the mood strike — from square to square to experience some of Portland’s best & most unique local entertainment. DESCRIPTION:***This event has been postponed until Saturday\, June 8th from 10am-12pm. Sadly\, it’s too rainy and chilly for the puppets!***\n  \nTry your hand at bunraku puppetry in a free playshop with Figures of Speech Theatre! Participants will work in groups of 2-3 puppeteers to animate a single puppet and create short\, non-verbal performances\, which we’ll share with each other. Along with noh and kabuki\, bunraku is one of the “high forms” of theater in Japan. We’ll make it easy & accessible for people of all ages and abilities! \nFigures of Speech Theatre creates and tours visionary works of performance forged at the intersection of poetry\, music\, sculpture and dance. \nOur vision for our educational programing—which takes place in all 16 Maine counties and beyond—is to engage imaginations\, impart skill-based training\, awaken consciousness regarding world cultures\, and expand students’ sense of life’s possibilities. We offer a range of programming and touring productions in service of that vision. \nFounded in 1982\, Figures of Speech Theatre is a four-time recipient of the UNIMA Citation of Excellence in Puppet Theater\, as well as grants from organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Rockefeller Foundation\, the Maine Humanities Council\, and the New England Foundation for the Arts. Honors include a six-month fellowship from the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission\, the New England Theater Conference’s award for Outstanding Achievement\, and a Maine Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship for artistic director John Farrell.
