SUMMARY:Fishin' Ships Food Truck
DESCRIPTION:Fishin’ Ships Food Truck starts with a classic street food that pays tribute to Portland’s historic fishing industry – fish and chips! Then\, they break the mold of what is traditionally considered fish and chips by offering craft beer batters made with gourmet ingredients. Look forward to a perfected classic\, and twists like a basil and thai chili battered fish\, prepared in Bissell Brothers Substance beer batter or a curry and onion battered fish\, fried in Allagash White beer batter. A rotating menu of lighter fare options include fish tacos\, fish sliders\, and ceviche. All fish comes from local waters and all beer batters are made with Maine made beer! \n

SUMMARY:Fenix Theatre's "Eurydice"
DESCRIPTION:“Eurydice” as imagined by Sarah Ruhl is a contemporary\, theatrical event that explores the power and limits of love\, loss and memory. \nEurydice leaves her wedding for the underworld\, searching for her father but the reunion is costly. Trapped on the opposite side of death\, Orpheus fights to retrieve his bride\, making a deal that seals both their fates. Celebrated by the New York Times as a “weird and wonderful new play\,” playwright Sarah Ruhl explores the ancient Greek myth from the female perspective and with a fresh eye. \nPresented by Fenix Theatre\, a group of artists dedicated to staging the classics of theatre and literature. Their goal is to produce work ranging from the beautiful to the brutal\, that is always rooted in truth and lives where the creativity and commitment of the artist meets the imagination of the audience. \nThey value showcasing the passion and brilliance of local artists. They value the creation of dynamic\, inclusive\, low barrier theatre. And they value theatre as a viable artistic/educational and entertainment outlet that is relevant and accessible to all members of the community.

SUMMARY:Portland Swing Project featuring Tom Whitehead's Rites of Swing
DESCRIPTION:Join Portland Swing Project for live music and swing dancing in the Square! This month\, Tom Whitehead’s Rites of Swing will perform. \nPortland Swing Project spreads the appreciation of swing music and dance through weekly classes and events for all levels of experience. We teach\, dance\, perform and provide live and DJ’d music to venues throughout Maine. Absolute beginners welcome\, no partner needed. \n“Rites of Swing is lead by vocalist\, guitarist and pianist\, Tom Whitehead. The ensemble also features Michael Arciero on guitar\, Kris Day on upright bass and Don Whitney on drums\, with special guest Ellen Carlson on violin. The sound evokes the smooth\, acoustic feeling of Django Reinhardt’s gypsy jazz style\, but with a distinctly American flavor of vocal standards from the 20’s\, 30’s and 40’s.  \nWhitehead sings in a very mature\, improvisatory style that is greatly complimented by Arciero’s dynamic and virtuosic lead guitar playing. Day and Whitney provide a seamless and effortless rhythmic foundation that swings hard\, but is never overbearing. Carlson’s fiddle playing evokes the sophisticated swing of the great Stephan Grappelli along with the earthy grittiness of Vassar Clemens and Johnny Gimble. This group sails along like a Clipper Ship of a bygone era – smooth\, elegant\, powerful and a real joy to listen and dance to.“ \n  \nPortland Swing Project hosts swing dances in Congress Square Park every third Friday from May through August. \n  \n \n  \nSaveSave

SUMMARY:Stage Frenzy: A 24-Hour Theater Marathon!
DESCRIPTION:Stage Frenzy is a 24 Hour Theatre Marathon where\, over the course of 24 hours\, theater artists of various backgrounds\, skill-sets\, and artistic processes will convene to write\, direct\, act\, design\, and perform a freshly written crop of original short plays. Stage Frenzy is an opportunity for theater makers to create theater in its purest form\, with little opportunity to over-think or second guess artistic decisions. It is also an opportunity to take risks. \nThis is the time and place for participating artists to try something new\, just for fun. To write that fantasy/scifi/horror play they’ve always wanted to write or that play that is half dance or includes puppets if that’s what they’ve wanted to explore. To direct in the round or immersively or with movement or puppetry or with bare minimum set. To act a role that’s completely off type in just 12 hours. To design on a shoestring budget with a small set and thrift stores at your convenience. To stage manage in 12 hours with other stage managers\, doing a whole month’s worth of rehearsal process in a split second. To do something different: they’ve got 364 other days of the year to do what they know. \n***Both Performances are in Congress Square Park***\nWorld Premiere Performance: Saturday\, July 7 @ 7:00pm\nEncore Performance: Sunday\, July 8 @ 2:00pm\nPresented by Chimera Theatre Collective. \nForged in Portland\, Maine\, in 2015\, Chimera Theatre Collective is focused on melding together our collective life experiences and artistic tendencies to bring new and overlooked works\, ideas\, artists\, and methods into the mainstream where they belong\, while also finding ways to shift the perception of what makes conventional theater.
