The choreography depicts scenes of hunting\, fishing and other activities while wearing traditional costumes and moving to the rhythms being created on handmade drums. \n\n\n \n\n\nChristielle Mutoniwase started the group in 2015 to perform at cultural events and weddings and there are now ten members who invite others to sample the ancient dances at many different venues.

Share them to make sure they are addressed at Open City Night\, Wednesday\, July 31st\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A volunteer from Portland will there to present #OneClimateFuture and get your feedback.\nOur businesses\, neighborhoods\, and way of life are worth protecting. Knowing our future will be impacted by climate change\, we have a responsibility to work together to see that our communities continue to be places of opportunity. The Cities of Portland and South Portland are taking the lead on this by developing a joint climate action and adaptation plan—One Climate Future: Charting a Course for Portland and South Portland. DESCRIPTION:Wazo Fest is a three day festival hosted in Portland\, Maine by Kesho Wazo\, a youth art collective. Join them for a screening of “Black Panther” in Congress Square Park at dusk! \n“Black Panther” is a 2018 superhero film\, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. After the events of Captain America: Civil War\, King T’Challareturns home to the reclusive\, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However\, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda\, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with CIA agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje\, Wakandan special forces\, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war \nKesho Wazo\, or “tomorrow’s ideas” in Swahili\, is an up and coming youth art collective. The group was created as an outlet for young people to express themselves through art\, music\, fashion\, and social advocacy. It is composed of 15 energetic members\, who share high ambitions to break boundaries and positively impact history.

DESCRIPTION:Stage Frenzy is a 24 Hour Theatre Marathon where\, over the course of 24 hours\, theater artists of various backgrounds\, skill-sets\, and artistic processes will convene to write\, direct\, act\, design\, and perform a freshly written crop of original short plays. Stage Frenzy is an opportunity for theater makers to create theater in its purest form\, with little opportunity to over-think or second guess artistic decisions. It is also an opportunity to take risks. \nThis is the time and place for participating artists to try something new\, just for fun. To write that fantasy/scifi/horror play they’ve always wanted to write or that play that is half dance or includes puppets if that’s what they’ve wanted to explore. To direct in the round or immersively or with movement or puppetry or with bare minimum set. To act a role that’s completely off type in just 12 hours. To design on a shoestring budget with a small set and thrift stores at your convenience. To stage manage in 12 hours with other stage managers\, doing a whole month’s worth of rehearsal process in a split second. To do something different: they’ve got 364 other days of the year to do what they know. \n  \nPresented by Chimera Theatre Collective. \nForged in Portland\, Maine\, in 2015\, Chimera Theatre Collective is focused on melding together our collective life experiences and artistic tendencies to bring new and overlooked works\, ideas\, artists\, and methods into the mainstream where they belong\, while also finding ways to shift the perception of what makes conventional theater.

Absolute beginners welcome\, no partner needed. \n“The Hadacol Bouncers formed in the summer of 2013 for a Portland\, Maine Swing Dance festival and have never looked back.  A Chicago and New Orleans-syle dance band\, they have continued their close association with the dance crowd and are always looking to play for dancers. The group is a joint effort by co-band leaders Tom Whitehead (piano) and Peter Dunphy (banjo). Tom has a multi-style background in blues\, New Orleans R&B and bebop piano. Peter has been playing New Orleans and Chicago-style jazz since he was fourteen. For the Hadacol Bouncers\, Tom and Peter handpicked some of their favorite musicians from the Portland and Portsmouth jazz scene. Like any band of this size\, there are several players who rotate in and out\, but the following are the established core.”

Finally\, they give youth space where they can talk about issues around youth living in between two different cultures. The Barn’s mission is to inspire creativity and community by harnessing the power of live performance. \nLocated in South Paris\, Celebration Barn’s restored horse barn in the woods of Maine provides an inspiring natural setting away. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free concert and dance party with Sabouyouma! \nSabouyouma is a high energy 7-piece polyrhythmic groove machine that formed through ongoing musical relationships in Burlington\, Vermont’s vibrant West-African dance and drumming scene. Sabouyouma is led by Guinean-born Ousmane Camara: the band’s front man\, composer\, and master Balafonist (the Balafon is a West-African marimba). \nIn 2017 Sabouyouma opened for nationally touring acts like Xenia Rubinos (Brooklyn)\, Polyrhythmics (Seattle)\, Ikebe Shakedown (Brooklyn)\, and Jonathan Scales Fourchestra (Asheville\, North Carolina)\, and has performed at music festivals that have become staples of the Vermont music scene: Burlington Discover Jazz Fest\, Waking Windows\, and The Manifestivus. \nOusmane Camara is a 6th generation Griot: Historically\, in West Africa\, Griots passed messages from the king throughout the kingdom before pen and paper. Griots continue to play an important role in Africa today as poets\, musicians\, singers\, and historians\, preserving their ancient traditions through song. At the age of seven\, Ousmane left his family’s home to go live with his teacher\, Djeli Sana Camara. He would study and play balafon with his teacher for the next fifteen years. Ousmane continued to play throughout Guinea and traveled through nine other African countries. He has subsequently taught students from around the world.

This is an all-levels class — all ages and abilities welcome! \nPilates involves exercising through controlled movements\, which should look and feel like a workout. If practiced with consistency\, Pilates improves flexibility\, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment\, breathing\, developing a strong core\, and improving coordination and balance. \nAsh has been using the Pilates Method since 2009 to give clients stronger cores\, bigger lungs\, better balance\, and calmer minds. \nAsh left her job as an intellectual property attorney to follow her passion for learning and sharing the Pilates Method\, first acquiring certification through Core Pilates NYC in Union Square and recently completing the Advanced certification program at The Pilates Center of Boulder. After 11 years of practice\, she is still waiting to get bored during a workout. \n  \nPilates in the Square is a series!
