Congress Square Park is excited to be a host for the 7th annual Make Music Portland! Portland once again joins hundreds of cities around the world in celebrating the Summer Solstice & Make Music Day by filling the streets with free musical performances, music lessons, and community play-a-long events.
Make Music Portland is a free, all-day celebration of sound that is open to all ages, genres, styles, and abilities. There will be play-a-long events for the musicians and non-musicians to participate in and a ton of performances by Maine musicians.
In Congress Square Park, join us for the Boston Opera Outreach Troupe! Expect fun and unexpected interactive singing and performance. Great for kids and folks of all ages who wish to be surprised and delighted by opera.
Boston Opera Outreach Troupe strives to present opera to a wide and diverse audience by creative staging; audience participation, engagement, and interaction; and in doing so, educating and exposing new audiences of all ages to breakdown previously conceived ideas of opera and enjoy this art form that encompasses singing, acting, and movement.
B.O.O.T. is a collaboration of New England based opera singers that places great importance on representing singers from a diverse cultural background and on representing these heritages through music in the operatic repertoire.
Come early for more Make Music Portland with a playshop from 4-6pm. Advanced high-school musicians will be setting up an instrument “petting zoo” for elementary and middle school students to explore!
